Delmarva Power Begins Installing ‘Smart’ Meters
Delmarva Power is bringing its electric and gas delivery systems in Delaware into the digital age with “smart” meters. Beginning in late 2009 and through the end of 2010, the utility will install 300,000 new digital electric meters, 130,000 gas modules plus the necessary support technology – all of which are aimed at improving reliability and customer service for our Delaware customers.
This advanced metering technology will provide two-way communication between us, the utility, and you, the customer. We believe this increased communication will strengthen our ability to better serve customers and, ultimately, enable us to provide customers with more detailed information about their energy use.
The Delaware Public Service Commission has authorized Delmarva Power to move forward with this plan. This is the kind of project the federal government has encouraged utilities across the nation to pursue to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
